Our Hospital Sterile Services Unit (HSSU) transports sterile and disinfected surgical equipment to our local hospital network. If you have a full driving licence with a C1 entitlement that allows you to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), you could enjoy the benefits of joining the UK’s largest Healthcare Charity.
As a Driver on our Stoke HSSU team, you’re comfortable with manual handling and happy to move transport trolleys weighing upwards of 250kg. As well as a basic knowledge of current driver hour legislation, you ideally hold a driver digital tachograph card. CPC training would also be advantageous but full training may be provided.
You’ll be a great ambassador for our unit and our customers’ first point of contact. As a Driver, you will:
- Drive our 7.5T vehicles across the Midlands to collect/deliver medical instrumentation.
- Act as an ambassador for the unit being the first point of contact for customers.
- Work hard to consistently exceed customer expectations and ensure that we provide an exceptional level of service to all of our customers!
- Receive and check deliveries of medical devices from customers.
- Help keep equipment in good working order and report any faults.
- Keep a clean, tidy work environment and identify stock issues as they arise.
- Maintain accurate tachograph records and documentation.
- Be flexible with your working hours.
- Manage your own time according to Driver Regulations.
- Maintain our vehicles ensuring they are clean and in a roadworthy condition, both inside and out.
- Drive safely and in accordance with current road and traffic legislation and notify your line manager of any defects, damage, or incidents that occur on the road.
Skills/Experience needed:
- A Full driving licence, including a C1 entitlement, which allows you to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
- Basic knowledge of current driver hour legislation and preferably hold a Driver digital tachograph card – training will be provided.
- Comfortable and physically fit with manual handling which includes the movement of transport trolleys weighing upwards of 250kg – manoeuvring on and off tail lifts delivering to Hospitals following their guidelines and handling sterile theatre trays with weights up to 15kg.
- A basic standard of general education with proven literacy and numeracy.
- Evidence of previous sterile services training is an advantage but not essential – full training will be provided.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written, and basic computer literacy.
- Attention to detail and an overarching desire to deliver a high quality service.
- Good customer skills as the face of Nuffield HSSU.
In this position, you will be reliable, have excellent communication skills, be flexible and approach your role with a positive and professional attitude.
Shift Information
- Shift Patterns, rotated weekly, monthly rotas produced for planning – Flexibility is requested but all staff are notified of any immediate changes.
- Mornings: 4am - 12pm
- Mid Shift: 10.30am - 6.30pm
- Afternoon: 2pm - 10pm
