The Plastic Specialty Clinical Lead will provide expert clinical, organisational, and professional leadership across the plastics theatre service. The post holder will coordinate all aspects of service delivery for both minor and major plastic surgery cases, ensuring a high standard of perioperative care, effective communication with consultants, and efficient use of resources.
The role includes responsibility for supporting and educating junior staff, managing equipment and implant requirements, and contributing to governance, audit, and service development.
In this role you will:
- Act as the primary theatre lead for plastics, coordinating day-to-day service delivery.
- Provide clinical guidance, mentorship, and support for junior staff and new starters in plastics, delivering regular teaching sessions, simulation training and competency assessments where appropriate.
- Oversee the ordering, stock control, and availability of implants, specialist equipment, and surgical kits required for plastic surgery procedures.
- Contribute to governance activity including incident reporting, risk management, root-cause analysis, and implementation of improvement actions. Maintain awareness and oversight of the Breast Implant Registry and ensure compliance with all national reporting requirements.
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff, theatre practitioners, and colleagues from the local trust/hospital to ensure seamless patient care.
- Undertake specialist training relevant to plastics and theatre practice as necessary and maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in plastic and reconstructive surgery, theatre standards, and national guidelines.
