Infection Prevention Lead Nurse

We have a part-time position to become the Infection Prevention Lead Nurse at Ipswich Hospital. Together with the Director of Clinical Services for the Hospital you will be operationally responsible for the day to day management of Infection Prevention and Control for the hospital. As an Infection Prevention Lead Nurse at our Ipswich Hospital, you’ll be registered with the appropriate governing body and you hold the relevant qualifications and experience, including NMC. With post-registration experience (at least two years in infection prevention and control), you’re able to carry out investigations and root cause analysis, as well as advising the clinical team.

The Role

  • You will be expected to work autonomously within all departments, offering advice and support to the clinical team.
  • You will liaise with the lead microbiologist and support the DCS as the DIPC with your specialist knowledge.
  • You will manage the infection prevention audit schedule and lead the infection prevention link team.
  • You will carry out investigations and root cause analysis and assist heads of department with quality improvement plans.
  • You will be required to produce an annual Infection Prevention programme and provide face to face teaching to the clinical and non-clinical team.
  • Your expertise will be required to assist the matron in facilitating and coordinating the quality assurance review, and produce the annual Infection prevention report.
  • You will support the DCS and clinical heads of department with provision of Clinical Governance at site.

The person

To succeed as the Infection Prevention Lead Nurse you will need to:

  • Have a registration with the appropriate governing body and have the qualifications and experience relevant to your registration, including NMC
  • Have at least 2 years’ experience in an infection prevention role
  • Be an excellent communicator and team worker – plus be flexible and motivated
  • Have the ability to fully understand each patient’s needs and provide individual attention
