Senior Data Analyst - 9 Month FTC

This is a nine month fixed term role backfilling permanent Data team capacity that is committed to the enterprise and corporate systems integration project.

The purpose of the role is to burn down the growing Change backlog, completing the analysis required, writing requirements and specifications, then delivering the new data models, reporting and data outputs that come from them, working closely with data engineering where that is required.

The role acts as the translation layer between the business, Change and the Data team, so requirements are understood, specified and delivered.

Responsibilities

• Burn down the Change backlog: Own the existing Change and reporting backlog, triage and size it, agree priority with Change and the Data Product Owner, and drive items through to completion.
• Requirements and specification translation: Act as the main point of contact between Change and the Data team, turning business requirements into technical specifications, and explaining data constraints and options back to Change in plain language.
• Analysis for data engineering work: Complete the up front analysis for larger pieces of work, including source profiling, mapping, model design and non-functional requirements, so that engineering effort can be estimated accurately and built without rework.
• Build defined reports and outputs: Build, test and release the reports, semantic models and data extracts that are already specified, using SQL, Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
• Prioritisation and progress reporting: Maintain a clear view of backlog size, throughput and burn down, and report progress to the Data Lead and Change stakeholders.
• Data quality and assurance: Validate outputs before release, apply team standards for definitions and reconciliation, and resolve discrepancies between reports.
• Business as usual and ad-hoc requests: Absorb day to day data requests while the permanent team is committed to the project, triaging effectively to protect delivery time.
• Mentoring and review: Support analysts and developers through specification review, peer review of outputs and knowledge sharing.
• Agile participation: Engaged participation in sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives, and contribute to improving how the team works.
• Handover: Document delivered items, decisions and remaining backlog so the permanent team can pick up cleanly at the end of the contract.
• Key deliverables over the nine months
• Change backlog triaged, sized and prioritised, with a measurable burn down position.
• Completed and released reports and data outputs from the defined backlog.
• Build ready specifications for the larger data engineering items.
• Documented definitions and reconciliation notes for delivered outputs.
• Regular progress reporting into the Data Lead, Data Product Owner, and Change.
• Clean handover of delivered work and remaining backlog at the end of the contract.
• Key skills and experience
• Advanced data analysis and SQL: Strong SQL for complex analysis, query optimisation and reconciliation across systems.
• Power BI and semantic modelling: Building semantic models, DAX measures and reports that stand up to scrutiny from senior stakeholders.
• Microsoft

Fabric: Practical experience of Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Pipelines, notebooks and semantic models, or strong equivalent cloud data platform experience.

• Requirements to specification: Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications that data engineers can build from without further analysis.
• Backlog management and delivery at pace: Experience owning and burning down a backlog, sizing work, prioritising with stakeholders and delivering to committed dates.
• Stakeholder management: Confident working with Change, operations and senior stakeholders, and comfortable challenging scope where it is not deliverable.
• Data quality and governance: Understanding of data governance principles, with discipline around definitions, lineage and reconciliation, and awareness of data protection where outputs include personal or client data.
• Mentoring: Proven ability to guide analysts and developers and raise standards through review and knowledge sharing.
• Regulated environment experience: Experience in financial services, platforms or another regulated environment is desirable.
• Agile working: Experience of working in an Agile delivery environment
