We’re looking for a Senior First Line Risk Manager to join our growing First Line Risk team in the Chief Operating Office (COO) at Nucleus. Reporting to the Head of First Line Risk and Incident Management, this pivotal role involves providing oversight and support for risk management across Operations, aligned with our risk framework. The role also includes line management of two Risk Managers, offering leadership, coaching, and development.

Our first line risk approach is critical to delivering excellent service, achieving positive customer outcomes, meeting regulatory obligations, and ensuring business safety as we expand. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to identify potential risks, implement controls, and support customer remediation efforts to address poor outcomes, root causes, and reporting.

You will work closely with second line risk and compliance teams to embed our risk management framework, ensuring prompt and accurate handling of events and breaches. The ideal candidate will have substantial operational and risk management experience within a regulated environment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for customer outcomes and process improvements.

About you

You are practical, adaptable, professional, resilient, and credible. You leverage your industry knowledge to build a self-sufficient team, using analytical and problem-solving skills to design sustainable risk management practices. You are structured, able to articulate complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders, and proactive in your approach. You thrive in collaborative environments, leading with confidence and empowering your team.

This role involves varied daily responsibilities, including:

  1. Supporting the implementation of the first line risk operating model and governance.
  2. Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability in risk management.
  3. Collaborating to identify, report, and remediate risk events and breaches.
  4. Working with process owners and cross-functional teams to enhance controls and conduct root cause analysis.
  5. Supporting systemic issue resolution and control improvements.
  6. Reviewing risk controls and indicators for effectiveness.
  7. Providing risk reports to senior management, highlighting key trends and events.
  8. Ensuring regulatory compliance and audit readiness.

We value cultural contribution highly, but for this role, we seek candidates with:

  • Experience embedding risk management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to identify and manage operational risks.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with experience in Power BI or similar tools.

About us

  • Nucleus aims to transform financial services and improve outcomes for advisers and clients. Service obsession is key, regardless of role.
  • Our environment is fast-paced, rewarding responsibility and trust. We foster a culture that our employees value highly.

Inclusion and diversity

  • We believe in the importance of inclusion as a business imperative, not just a box to tick.
  • Our benefits include pension, bonus, parental leave, emergency time off, health initiatives, and flexible working options.
