About Concert Bio
Concert Bio is an early-stage start-up backed by leading US and European VCs as well as several prestigious UKRI grants. We are transforming humanity’s relationship with the world’s most important ecosystem, microbiomes. Our start is in soilless agriculture: think greenhouses, tomatoes and NASA space missions. Just like us humans, plants have a ‘gut’ microbiome on their roots that’s vital to their health and growth. Our products and services help hydroponic growers for the first time to understand and harness this potential.
Overture®, our first commercial product, launched last year. Industry leaders including BrightFarms, Little Leaf and Vertify have seen unprecedented performance in 50+ trials. We’re executing our GTM in the US and preparing to expand into new crops and the EU. Named by F&A as a Next Hero in Food & Agtech, we’re on a mission to delight growers all over the world. You’ll be joining a passionate team where everyone has high ownership, shaping both the company and its culture as we scale. If that’s something you could go all-in on, read on.
Role
We’re entering an exceptionally busy period of commercial execution and are looking for an early-career, execution-minded generalist to support this growth. You’ll work closely with the CEO and COO, helping keep commercial and operational activity moving during this high-intensity phase. This is a hands-on role with a lot of variety — supporting customers, managing practical commercial admin, and helping the team stay organised and responsive as we scale. This is not a strategy or advisory role. It’s best suited to someone who enjoys getting stuck in, taking ownership, and learning by doing.
Why this role matters now
We’re at a stage where small improvements in execution have an outsized impact. As commercial activity accelerates, this role exists to keep momentum high — removing friction, following things through, and making sure good work turns into real outcomes. You’ll be operating close to live customers, real decisions, and day-to-day trade-offs, helping the team stay focused and responsive as we scale.
What success looks like
In the first few months, you’ll be deeply embedded in how the business actually runs — supporting customer conversations, managing follow-ups and logistics, and building the judgement to spot what needs doing and do it. By the end of the role, you’ll have operated at the centre of a scaling biotech company and gained hands-on experience of how commercial decisions are made and executed in practice. The role is offered on a 6-month fixed-term basis, designed as an intensive period of hands-on operating experience inside a scaling startup.
Who this role is for
- You’re early in your career but have at least a year of industry experience (not just internships)
- You’re proactive, organised, and comfortable working independently
- You enjoy a mix of customer-facing work and behind-the-scenes execution
- You communicate clearly and build trust easily with different people
- You’re curious, quick to learn, and thrive working in an environment with high ownership and pace
- You bring high energy and low ego — you’re enthusiastic, resilient, and happy doing whatever needs doing to help the team succeed
- You’re excited by steep learning curves and want exposure to how a real biotech business operates at pace
Who this role is not for
- Someone looking for a primarily strategy-focused or advisory role
- Candidates on a consulting career track or with a consulting mindset
- New graduates without meaningful work experience
- Anyone who prefers highly structured roles with narrow scopes
- Anyone looking to combine this role with multiple other commitments or portfolio work
Responsibilities
- Support the CEO and COO with day-to-day commercial and operational execution.
- Pitch in across the business as needed during busy periods, making yourself useful whenever you recognise an opportunity.
- Assist with customer outreach, including preparing communications, follow-ups, and scheduling meetings. Join colleagues at conferences and events, assisting with organisation and engaging with potential customers and collaborators.
- Build and strengthen relationships with existing customers, supporting their journey from first contact through to trialling, purchasing and then regularly using our microbial products.
- Support the CEO in developing commercial terms with growers and partners.
- Maintain and manage our CRM to ensure it stays up to date and the right potential customers are contacted and followed up.
- Support with financial and operational administration, including preparing quotes, raising invoices, arranging shipping.
- Arrange travel, accommodation, and meeting logistics for the CEO and wider team.
- Support practical market intelligence — gathering insights from customers, competitors, and the field, and feeding these back to inform decisions.
Need to have
- Instinctive ability to quickly recognise what needs to be done. An all-in mindset and a passion for working in a high-speed, low-control environment where you have high ownership.
- Eagerness to push yourself and expand your abilities, both professionally and personally.
- Experience relevant to the role, including working at a start-up / scale-up. Bonus points for hands-on experience in a relevant industry (ideally in Biotech or Agtech).
- Excellent operator abilities, including independent initiative, organisational skills, attention to detail, and a knack for making the (almost) impossible practical.
- Excellent communicator, with a talent for developing and maintaining effective relationships with customers, suppliers and team members.
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally (particularly EU/US) as needed.
Nice to have
- Any experience or familiarity with one or more of: commercial soilless agriculture, microbial agriculture products, or agricultural sales.
- Some exposure to commercial negotiations or deal support.
- Financial skills, including one or more of: financial reporting, experience with Xero (or equivalent).
- Previous product / sales and marketing experience.
