The role is to lead the multi‑disciplinary technical design and delivery of complex engineering projects across their full lifecycle, from concept through to in‑service support and disposal. This is a rare opportunity to combine hands‑on engineering expertise with people leadership. You will manage and develop a team of engineers, act as the technical authority for your projects, and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

  • Act as the technical point of contact for internal teams, customers and suppliers
  • Ensure engineering compliance with legal, regulatory and safety requirements
  • Coach, mentor and develop engineers to build capability and performance
  • Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies and design trade‑offs

The role is based onsite at Walsall, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week.

Essential experience:

  • System‑level engineering experience with vehicle integration
  • Defining requirements, specifications and system architecture
  • Designing for manufacturability, cost, weight and reliability
  • Understanding testing, validation and homologation processes
  • Proven team and people management experience

Qualifications:

  • Problem‑solving and root cause analysis (8D, A3, Ishikawa, 5-Why)
  • Knowledge of automotive systems (powertrain, chassis, body, E/E, ADAS, thermal, or interiors)
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAE tools and engineering documentation

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.

What we offer:

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance
  • Access to a Digital GP, annual health check, and nutritional consultations through Aviva DigiCare+

  • Payment of Professional Fees
  • Reservists in the armed forces receive 10-days special paid leave
  • Holiday Trading allows UK Babcock employees to buy additional leave or to sell up to one working week of annual leave from their annual entitlement.
  • ‘Be Kind Day’ enables employees to take one working day's paid leave a year to undertake volunteering work with their chosen organisation or registered charity
