The role involves maintaining and repairing military vehicles and essential training equipment that support defence capability. This hands-on position ensures vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for use, helping to deliver critical training and operational readiness across the armed forces.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Carrying out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on wheeled and tracked military vehicles
- Diagnosing faults using technical manuals and diagnostic systems
- Completing job documentation accurately to ensure compliance and traceability
- Maintaining workshop tools, equipment, and training aids to required standards
- Supporting team activities while ensuring all work meets health, safety, and MOD requirements
The role is based onsite at MOD Lyneham, with working times of Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week, with the opportunity to work this across a four-day working week.
Essential experience:
- Using diagnostic equipment, laptops, and IT systems in an engineering environment
- Demonstrating strong fault finding and problem-solving skills
- Working within a team to deliver high-quality engineering outputs to deadlines
- Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues
Qualifications:
- Recognised qualification in Automotive Engineering, such as Level 3 IMI, City and Guilds, BTEC or NVQ, or equivalent experience from the armed forces as a vehicle mechanic or technician
- Holding a diagnostic technician qualification or having proven diagnostic experience
- Full UK driving licence (Category B)
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
