The role

As a Security Assurance Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a pivotal role in protecting critical infrastructure within our Naval Nuclear business. This is a high-impact leadership position where your expertise will shape how security assurance is delivered across a complex, highly regulated environment.

You’ll lead a skilled team and work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure robust, compliant, and forward-thinking security practices. Your work will directly contribute to national security while giving you the opportunity to grow your leadership capability and influence at a strategic level.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive security assurance programme across the site
  • Manage assurance activities, including audit planning, resource allocation, and evidence gathering
  • Provide leadership and direction to a high-performing security assurance team
  • Analyse security performance, identifying risks, and recommending solutions to improve resilience
  • Coordinate compliance with government standards, legal requirements, and industry best practice

This is a full‑time, 35 hours per week role based at our Devonport site. Hybrid working patterns are available under local agreement.

Essential experience of the Security Assurance Manager

  • Demonstrable experience in assurance, audit, or compliance within a regulated industry
  • Proven track record of leading teams delivering audit, assurance, or inspection activities
  • Strong people management and communication skills, including handling complex stakeholder relationships
  • Experience conducting audits and/or willingness to achieve formal lead auditor qualifications
  • Knowledge of security standards such as Government Standard 007 and familiarity with ISO frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001)

Qualifications for the Security Assurance Manager

  • Level 5 management or leadership qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Relevant assurance or audit qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to obtain)
  • Completion of, or willingness to complete, NPSA training
  • Professional membership in a related discipline (desirable)

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
