Role Summary
As a Principal Independent Peer Review Assessor, you’ll play a key role within the Independent Nuclear Oversight (INO) Group of the Assurance Directorate, providing advice and regulatory interface on nuclear safety, radiological safety, radioactive waste management and ensuring compliance with legal and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Independent Peer Review of safety documents and policy in accordance with established procedures, satisfying BMS, Nuclear Site Licence and MOD Authorisation.
- Present findings of Peer Review to the Nuclear Safety Committee on behalf of the Independent Peer Review Manager.
- Lead and manage consultants contracted for external Peer Review.
- Assist in formulating IPR strategy and policy to address emerging issues.
- Prepare Peer Review reports to required standards and timescales, enter them into the SCaNDS/IPR database and incorporate them into the Licensee’s documentation archive.
Essential Experience
- General safety‑related engineering experience in a high hazard industry.
- Significant experience conducting safety analysis, including FMECA, fault tree analysis, in support of probabilistic and deterministic safety assessments.
- Experience in development, management and analysis of fault schedules and derivation of safety functional requirements.
- Experience authoring safety case claims, arguments and evidence demonstrating risk management.
- Understanding of Naval Base infrastructure with detailed knowledge of submarine engineering is advantageous.
Qualifications
- Degree in an appropriate Scientific or Engineering discipline.
- Chartered accreditation by an appropriate Professional Institution.
- Completion of NUC0793 Nuclear Plant Foundation Course Module 1 (or equivalent).
- Completion of NUC0794 Nuclear Fundamentals (Foundation) Course Module 2 (or equivalent).
- Completion of NUC0911 Introduction to Safety Engineering.
