Looking for a role where you can genuinely influence how plant operations are run, while working a 4-day week? Opportunities like this don’t come up often. This position offers exactly that. Your week will be condensed into Monday to Thursday working as standard, giving you a long weekend every week while stepping into a role where your decisions directly impact safety and operations.

As part of the Berkeley HAW team, you will be at the centre of plant operations, controlling and supervising systems, ensuring compliance, and supporting the safe delivery of work across site. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to move beyond just doing tasks and into taking ownership of how and when work is carried out.

What will you be doing

The role focuses on controlling and supervising plant operations, ensuring systems are run safely, compliantly and in line with site licence conditions. A strong understanding of plant status, configuration and expected performance will be important, alongside the ability to identify and respond to issues quickly and effectively. In addition to operational oversight, the role includes preparing safety documentation, supporting investigations, carrying out inspections and contributing to continuous improvement. You will work within established procedures and apply human performance tools to maintain high standards across the site.

You will do this within a 4 day working week, giving you the space to focus and maintain a better work life balance.

Key areas include:

  • Controlling plant operations, status and configuration within defined limits
  • Preparing and issuing safety documentation in line with site rules and procedures
  • Identifying, investigating and resolving plant issues and operational risks, conducting inspections, supporting reporting and maintaining site standards
  • Supporting the Operational Decision-Making process
  • Supporting delivery of training

Who are we looking for

A strong engineering foundation is essential, with a minimum HNC or HND, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline. This will be supported by a broad understanding of plant operations, including mechanical, electrical and control systems, alongside knowledge of thermodynamics, health physics and related technical areas. We are open to candidates from a range of industries, including power, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, chemicals, utilities, and the armed forces, as long as you have strong hands-on experience working with plant or equipment in a safety-focused environment.

Experience working within a regulated environment will be important, particularly with a clear understanding of safety rules, company procedures and statutory requirements. The ability to interpret plant conditions, make sound decisions and communicate effectively within a team will be key to success.

Essential qualifications:

  • HNC, HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of plant operations across mechanical, electrical and control systems
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures, regulatory requirements and compliance
  • Ability to assess plant conditions, identify issues and respond effectively

We also welcome applications from those looking to develop and may not meet all essential criteria. In these cases, a lower grade may be offered as a development opportunity. The successful candidate would be supported with a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to enable progression into the role.
