Are you ready to take ownership of complex civil engineering systems that play a critical role in managing the UK’s nuclear legacy? Would you thrive in a role where you can apply your expertise across a unique mix of historic and modern structures while shaping how they are maintained, improved, and decommissioned? Hinkley Point A offers a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of nuclear decommissioning, supporting the safe long-term management of vital infrastructure.

As a Civil System Engineer, you’ll work across an incredibly diverse portfolio from concrete foundations and sumps to steel structures and reactor shield walls building your expertise in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

What will you be doing

  • Take ownership of a portfolio of civil engineering systems, becoming the focal point for their performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Define and deliver engineering strategies that ensure long-term reliability while identifying opportunities for maintenance improvements and investment.
  • Support safe site operations and the successful delivery of decommissioning activities.
  • Monitor system performance, lead inspections, and develop the documentation and technical standards needed to maintain compliance.
  • Provide proactive engineering support to projects, ensuring seamless integration and handover of system changes, while contributing to continuous improvement and operational learning.

Who are we looking for

  • A motivated and capable civil engineer with experience working in an industrial or plant-based environment.
  • Confident in applying engineering standards within a regulated setting.
  • Strong safety mindset and enjoy taking ownership of systems, solving problems, and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Solid engineering foundation, with a minimum HNC (or equivalent) and ideally a degree in engineering, alongside practical experience in a civil engineering role within an industrial setting.
  • Experience in nuclear or conventional plant, along with an understanding of national or company engineering standards and stakeholder engagement.
  • Progression toward professional accreditation or chartership is advantageous.
  • Experience with safety cases, risk assessment, or regulated environments will set you apart.

We also welcome applications from those looking to develop and therefore may not meet all the essential criteria for the role. In these circumstances there may be a lower grade offered for a development opportunity. The successful candidate would be considered on a case by case basis and supported with a PDP (Personal Development Plan) to enable a clear path for progression into the role.
