Maintain critical survival and aircrew equipment in a safety‑critical aviation environment. At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. We’re looking for a Survival Equipment Technician to join our Aviation business, based on site at RAF Shawbury, supporting the HADES contract and Rotary Flying Training operations. This is a hands‑on technical role where you’ll be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and rectification of survival equipment and aircrew equipment assemblies that directly support flying operations.
As a Survival Equipment Technician, you’ll be part of a specialist Survival Equipment team, delivering preventative and corrective maintenance on all items of Survival Equipment (SE) and Aircrew Equipment Assemblies (AEA). You’ll work to approved standards, publications, and procedures, ensuring equipment is safe, serviceable, and available to meet the flying programme.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
- Carry out maintenance, inspection, and repair of SE and AEA.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with approved technical publications, standards, and procedures.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, including hazard, near‑miss, and incident reporting.
- Support quality, security, environmental, and health & safety standards across the team.
- Contribute to investigations and continuous improvement activities where required.
This is a full‑time, permanent role, working Monday to Friday (08:00–17:00), with flexibility required to support the flying programme. The role is fully onsite at RAF Shawbury. Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.
Essential experience:
- A safety‑focused technician with experience maintaining survival or aircrew equipment.
- Strong understanding of technical documentation, engineering publications, and procedures.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- A professional approach when working in a regulated, operational setting.
Qualifications:
- Recognised technical or engineering qualification within survival equipment or aircrew equipment maintenance.
- Selective sizing and fitting of aircrew equipment assemblies and NVG maintenance experience is desirable.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
