The role

As a Security Access Controller, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a key role in safeguarding one of the UK’s most secure sites. You’ll manage access to the dockyard, ensuring that only authorised personnel and visitors are granted entry - helping to protect critical infrastructure and operations. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in security and administration, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders in a dynamic, high-security environment. You’ll build essential skills in compliance, communication, and operational coordination while contributing to something bigger.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Manage access to secure areas, ensuring all entry processes meet strict security protocols
  • Operate access control systems, including issuing and renewing passes and ID cards
  • Conduct security checks and maintaining accurate visitor and personnel records
  • Support visitors and colleagues by providing professional front‑of‑house customer service
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate site access

This is a full‑time role working 35 hours per week, based on site at Devonport.

Essential experience of the Security Access Controller

  • Experience in administration and/or customer service within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion

Qualifications for the Security Access Controller

  • GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade A–C or equivalent)
  • Completed or willingness to work towards an NVQ Level 2 in Administration

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
