Research Programme Manager

As Research Programme Manager, you will lead the strategic coordination and delivery of complex, high-value research programmes across multiple departments. This pivotal role demands exceptional project management skills, a strong understanding of research governance, and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. You will ensure that programmes are delivered on time, to scope, and in full compliance with funding and regulatory requirements.

You will need a proven track record in managing complex projects or programmes in a research or academic environment, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a proactive approach to risk management and process improvement. The ability to work across disciplines, balance competing priorities, and drive forward strategic objectives is essential.

Research Programs Manager – Summary of Main Duties

A Research Programs Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of research projects and programs within an organisation. Key duties include:

• Project Management: Leading and managing multiple research projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
• Strategic Planning: Supporting the development and implementation of research strategies aligned with organisational goals and priorities.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, funders, collaborators, and regulatory bodies, to facilitate effective communication and partnership working.
• Financial Oversight: Managing program budgets, monitoring expenditure, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements and financial procedures.
• Governance and Compliance: Ensuring research projects adhere to ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
• Performance Monitoring: Tracking program outcomes, evaluating progress, and reporting on performance to senior management and funders.
• Team Coordination: Supporting or leading teams involved in research delivery, including assigning tasks, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative working environment.

This vacancy is advertised in accordance with the NHS pay rate effective from autumn 2024. If your employment begins before the new pay scales are implemented, you will be paid under the 23/24 scales, with any backpay adjusted accordingly. Further details can be found at NHS Employers Pay Scales .
