The role

As a Senior Business Improvement Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in shaping and delivering transformational change across one of the UK’s most important engineering and defence environments. Working within the Business Improvement team, you will help drive the Devonport Transformation Programme by identifying opportunities to enhance performance, improve efficiency and deliver sustainable business value. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the business, lead improvement projects, solve complex challenges and influence meaningful change. This full‑time role is 35 hours per week and offers hybrid working arrangements.

  • Lead business improvement and transformation initiatives that deliver measurable organisational benefits.
  • Drive structured problem‑solving activities to identify and implement sustainable solutions to complex business challenges.
  • Support project and programme teams by applying best‑practice methodologies across improvement, change and transformation activities.
  • Coaching and influencing colleagues and stakeholders to adopt new ways of working and embed change.
  • Monitor governance, risk and performance measures to ensure successful delivery of transformation objectives.

Essential experience

  • Demonstrable experience within business improvement, transformation or continuous improvement environments.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver improvement projects using recognised methodologies such as project management, change management, business analysis or lean principles.
  • Experience solving complex, non‑routine business problems and delivering practical, sustainable outcomes.
  • Experience supporting transformation programmes, including governance, risk management and performance tracking.
  • Strong understanding of how business improvement initiatives align with strategic organisational objectives.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree‑level qualification, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant discipline.
  • Practitioner‑level qualification in at least one relevant specialism such as Project Management, Change Management, Business Analysis or Lean.

Desirable

  • Association for Project Management qualification.
  • Change Management Practitioner or Prosci Practitioner certification.
  • Business Analysis Practitioner qualification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
