As a Mechanical or Chemical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be part of our Nuclear Engineering Group, a Technical Authority within Babcock’s Devonport Naval Nuclear sector. You’ll contribute to the design of, and modification and through-life support to, fixed, portable and temporary pressure systems and associated equipment that provide critical submarine interfaces and support activities including system testing and commissioning, temperature and chemistry control, and radioactive waste receipt, storage, treatment and disposal.

Day-to-day, you’ll author design documentation, produce Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and drawings, undertake engineering analyses, and provide technical advice to ensure compliance with nuclear regulations and pressure system standards. You’ll work in an agile, collaborative environment that supports career progression and professional development.

What you’ll do:

  • Leading or working within a team of engineers to plan, organise and deliver design tasks
  • Developing and delivering designs through all lifecycle phases in line with legislation
  • Problem solving and providing technical solutions to emergent operational issues
  • Performing and leading quality checks on engineering outputs

This role is based onsite 3 days per week as a minimum in Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in mechanical, chemical or process engineering
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of piping/pressure systems and components
  • Knowledge of engineering regulations and standards
  • Understanding of the full design lifecycle
  • Experience in CAD, component engineering simulation, system fluid flow analysis, or nuclear plant design is advantageous
  • Minimum HNC in relevant engineering discipline
  • Degree qualified and professionally registered with a relevant engineering institution preferred for more senior positions

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
