About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Balfour Beatty’s team, selected as a construction partner for the Rolls Royce expansion work in Raynesway, Derby, designed to meet the growing demand from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and in response to the AUKUS agreement. As part of this multi-phase programme, which will unfold over the next eight years, Balfour Beatty will deliver essential infrastructure enabling works, construct new manufacturing and office facilities, and redevelop existing industrial buildings on the site.
We are now recruiting for Planners to join our expert planning team for this prestigious project. You’ll be at the forefront of this large-scale development that supports national security and innovation while working alongside a skilled team to deliver the project from RIBA stage 2 through to construction and handover.
What you\’ll be doing
As a Planner at Balfour Beatty, you will play a key role in managing and delivering the project, working alongside a highly skilled team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Program Development and Management: Work collaboratively with the Senior Planner and the project team to develop detailed, robust, and accurate programmes for the project from RIBA stage 2 through to construction and handover.
- Resource Optimization: You will optimize resource allocations and coding within the programme, ensuring that projects stay on schedule and within budget.
- Integration of Programmes: Assist with integrating individual programmes into the overall master project schedule, ensuring coordination across various phases and functions of the project.
- Client and Stakeholder Collaboration: Actively work with the Client, Design Partners, and Supply Chain Partners to ensure alignment and smooth execution of project deliverables.
- Progress Reporting: Support the regular progress updates, and the preparation of formal contractual programme submissions within the NEC framework.
- Risk Management: Understand, identify, and mitigate project risks as they relate to time, schedule, and resources, ensuring proactive management and resolution of any issues.
- 4D Planning and Digital Collaboration: You will be involved in digital collaboration strategies for the project, including working with 4D planning techniques to ensure optimal project delivery.
Who we\’re looking for
We’re looking for Planners with a solid background in construction or transferable skills from other industries. The ideal candidate will bring both technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills. Specifically, we are looking for:
- Experience: A proven track record in construction planning, or a related sector where transferable skills are applicable. Knowledge of the planning function within an NEC environment is highly desirable.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to develop programmes from first principles and conduct critical analysis of existing schedules, identifying areas for improvement and optimizing efficiency.
- Planning Software Expertise: Proficiency in the use of Primavera P6 software, including resource management and schedule optimization. Familiarity with other planning tools is a plus.
- Project Controls Understanding: Strong understanding of project controls, including critical path analysis, float management, and time risk assessment, to effectively identify, manage, and mitigate project delays.
- Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, designers, and supply chain partners. The ability to influence and negotiate where necessary to achieve the project’s goals.
- Educational Background: An OND, HND, or Degree in a relevant field such as Construction Management, Engineering, or Project Management is preferred.
