Contract length: 12 months (extensions available)

Contracted hours: 37 hours (overtime available)

Role Overview

As a Pipe Welder you will have an important role within the business to stay professional throughout your contract delivering to the highest standard ensuring Safety, Health and Environmental regulations are followed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work and support the build programme operating within a small integrated team of pipe fitters and fitters installing pipe work for the Astute programme.
  • Identify and obtain appropriate equipment and be familiar with consumables to carry out welding activities.
  • Set and adjust welding parameters, in accordance with the welding procedure and specification.
  • Prepare the work area for the welding activities (such as placing welding screens, positioning fume extraction equipment).
  • Check the condition of and correctly connect welding leads/cables, hoses, shielding gas supply and wire-feed mechanisms.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Time served pipe welder.
  • Experience with MPI, X-ray.
  • Experience with welding on radiographed pipe welds.
  • Experienced with TIG welding.
  • Experience with EB inserts and orbital welding would be desirable.
  • Experience working in heavy engineering, nuclear or ship building industry would be desirable.

Requirements

  • Holds a full Engineering Modern Apprenticeship, trade papers.
  • Safety certification (SHE Induction, COSHH Awareness, working at height, etc.).
  • Background in marine, Oil and Gas, major construction / manufacturing environment.
