Your Role applies engineering concepts and theories to deliver the development of designs, calculations and technical solutions for Babcock products and services across the Engineering Product Lifecycle. Works independently with occasional supervision, seeking guidance for complex situations. Develops learning, skills and experience within discipline/domain. Provides mentoring to others.

The role involves supporting major engineering and infrastructure programmes within one of the UK’s most important defence sites. Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical engineering expertise across the full lifecycle of building services systems, from requirements capture and concept development to through-life support and decommissioning.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver designs across all stages of the engineering design process, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Lead or contribute to engineering tasks, organise workloads, and facilitate progress within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Produce detailed design documentation, assessments, and technical reports, acting as lead author where appropriate.
  • Provide expert advice on maintaining design intent, ensuring adherence to design codes, safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Represent the Mechanical Building Services Technical Authority through onsite system surveys, reviews, and through-life technical support activities.
Essential Experience:
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles relating to systems such as steam and condensate, industrial gases, fresh and demineralised water, HVAC, and domestic water services.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, engineering software, and documentation platforms.
  • Knowledge of the engineering design lifecycle and its application within complex projects.
  • Understanding of relevant regulations, legislation, and technical standards for building services design.
  • Experience working within nuclear or other high-hazard industries.
Qualifications:
  • Level 5 qualification in mechanical engineering or building services or a Level 4 qualification with substantial relevant experience.
  • Higher-level qualifications, membership of professional engineering institutions, or specialist building services certifications - Desirable.
Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
