The role:

As a Nuclear Welder Trainer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a vital role in shaping the next generation of welders who support some of the most important defence engineering projects in the UK. You’ll train, assess, and develop welding professionals whose work directly contributes to the safety and performance of the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. This is an exceptional opportunity to use your technical expertise to make an impact that extends far beyond the workshop - supporting national security and helping to maintain one of the most advanced engineering programmes in the world.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Deliver practical welding training across a range of processes and materials
  • Assess and qualify welders in line with nuclear and defence standards
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections before and after weld operations
  • Provide technical guidance on welding procedures, defects, and safe working practices
  • Maintain accurate records of training, qualifications, and compliance activities

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday, provides hybrid working arrangements, and offers regular overtime opportunities.

Essential experience:

  • Strong background in welding, inspection, or fabrication within nuclear, defence, or shipbuilding environments
  • Practical experience across multiple welding processes (e.g., TIG, MMA, MIG/MAG, FCAW)
  • Experience conducting technical training, mentoring, or competency assessment
  • In‑depth understanding of welding standards, processes, and inspection techniques
  • Ability to work effectively in a high‑integrity, safety‑focused environment

Qualifications:

  • Modern Apprenticeship in Welding and Fabrication or equivalent
  • CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 Welding Inspector certification
  • HNC in Engineering or related discipline is desirable
  • Responsible Welding Coordinator qualification or willingness to achieve is desirable

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
