The role
You’ll be at the heart of maintaining and enhancing the operational readiness of submarines and surface ships. This is a hands‑on role where your expertise in fabrication will directly contribute to national defence and maritime safety. You’ll be part of a team that thrives on precision, collaboration, and innovation – making a real impact on the UK’s naval capabilities while growing your own career in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
Day‑to‑day you’ll be:
- Performing light to heavy fabrication and structural activities to support maintenance and refit operations
- Interpreting engineering drawings, plans, and standards to manufacture or repair systems
- Investigating faults and determining effective repair methods
- Completing Engineering Support work packages to ensure operational availability
- Working within health and safety legislation and contributing to process improvements
This role is full-time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday, 07:15 to 16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.
Essential experience
- Skilled in light and medium fabrication, including burning, welding, and drilling
- Competent in using power tools and workshop machinery
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and over water
- Familiar with technical instructions and acceptance standards
- Experienced in maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work
Qualifications
- Recognised Welding/Fabrication/Plater Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ and City & Guilds equivalent)
- HNC or above in a relevant discipline with industry experience (preferred)
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
