The role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of maintaining and improving critical infrastructure that supports national defence. This is your chance to make a tangible impact on safety, security, and operational excellence while advancing your career in a dynamic and rewarding environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Act as Technical Authority for Electrical Services at HMNB Clyde, representing Babcock Marine in technical and organisational meetings.
  • Survey and inspect assets across HMNB Clyde, applying MoD Defence Estates asset grading standards.
  • Champion safety, security, quality, and environmental standards within the Facility Design section.
  • Deliver electrical and building services designs for projects under £25k and oversee third‑party designs for larger projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards while optimising client investment.

This is a full‑time role (36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday) based at our Faslane site, with hybrid working arrangements available.

Essential experience of the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Proven experience in Electrical Design roles.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and equipment within large commercial site operations.
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements such as DSEAR.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and electrical calculations.

Qualifications for the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Recognised Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition City & Guilds.
  • City & Guilds 2395 Periodic Inspection Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
