The role

As a Construction Health and Safety Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a key role within our Naval Base Projects team, supporting a diverse portfolio of construction projects in a unique, high-hazard environment. Acting as a subject matter expert in Construction Design and Management (CDM), you’ll ensure safety is embedded from the earliest design stages through to on-site delivery.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Collaborate with designers, project managers, and contractors to embed safe design principles from project inception
  • Apply principles of prevention to eliminate or reduce risk during the pre-construction phase
  • Review risk assessments, hazard logs, and construction documentation to ensure safe, compliant delivery
  • Contribute to design reviews, workshops, and project meetings across multiple sites
  • Provide practical, on-site health and safety guidance that supports safe and effective project delivery

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday 07:15 – 16:45 and is based on site at RNAD Coulport with regular travel across internal and customer sites.

Essential experience of the Construction Health and Safety Specialist:

  • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and construction health and safety legislation
  • Experience understanding and managing design risk, not just site safety
  • Background working in live construction environments in a hands-on role
  • Experience engaging directly with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive safe outcomes

Qualifications for the Construction Health and Safety Specialist:

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate or equivalent
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5–6 in Occupational Health and Safety or working towards
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IOSH, IIRSM, CIOB, RICS or ICE or working towards

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
