As a Boilermaker, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining, repairing and improving essential estate infrastructure at one of the UK’s most strategically important naval bases. From boilers and cranes to marine and mechanical structures, your expertise will help ensure safe, compliant and reliable operations every day. This is a hands‑on, skilled engineering role where no two days are the same. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals in a supportive team environment, contributing directly to national defence while continuing to develop your technical capability, confidence and career.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across boilers, cranes and marine structures.
- Identifying, diagnosing and rectifying system, manufacturing and installation defects.
- Interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Working safely in line with health, safety and environmental legislation and safe systems of work.
- Contributing ideas to improve processes, productivity and operational effectiveness.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week, based on site at HMNB Clyde. Set working times are Monday to Thursday, 07:15 to 16:45.
Essential experience of the Boilermaker:
- Operating and maintaining brazing or similar mechanical equipment.
- Interpreting engineering drawings and technical schematics.
- Completing risk assessments and working to safe systems of work.
- Applying COSHH requirements in a practical environment.
- Working safely with mechanical tools, equipment and machinery.
Qualifications for the Boilermaker:
- Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
- Coded welding experience - Desirable.
- Confined spaces or working at height certification - Desirable.
- Asbestos awareness or abrasive wheels training – Desirable.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
