The role

As a Driver, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be responsible for providing essential transport services that support the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) contract. From moving personnel and equipment to ensuring vehicle safety and compliance, your role will be vital in keeping operations running smoothly and efficiently. This is a hands‑on position where your skills will directly contribute to national defence training. You’ll work with a variety of military and civilian vehicles, gaining valuable experience and making a meaningful impact every day.

  • Driving eligible personnel and equipment to and from training exercises or military duties
  • Supporting departmental admin tasks and delivering stores across site
  • Travelling up to 1.5 hours from site and performing manual tasks such as lifting and using tools
  • Operating a range of vehicles including PSV and LGV fleet
  • Completing vehicle checks before, during, and after use

The role is based at RSME Minley. Working times are Monday to Thursday, 08:00–16:30 and Friday, 08:00–16:00, totalling 37 hours per week. Overtime may be available, and flexibility in start times may be required.

Essential experience of the Driver

  • Practical experience maintaining roadworthiness of vehicles
  • Strong understanding of driver’s hours regulations (JSP800 Vol 5 or EU regulations)
  • Experience in load restraint and load safety

Qualifications for the Driver

  • Full UK Driving Licence with minimum Category C
  • Licences C+E & D would be an advantage offering a higher salary
  • Driver CPC and Tachograph card

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance. Positions may also be subject to national security clearance and trade control restrictions, which could affect eligibility based on nationality or residency.
