The role

As an Engineering Support Multi Skilled Operative, you’ll play a vital part in enabling our Fleet Engineering teams to operate safely, efficiently and effectively. This is a hands‑on, varied role supporting planned maintenance, defect rectification and engineering activities across submarines, surface vessels and the wider estate. You’ll be joining a highly skilled operational environment where no two days are the same. It’s a role that builds technical breadth, develops strong safety and compliance awareness, and offers long‑term career progression within defence engineering.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Supporting engineering teams to deliver planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Enabling the identification and rectification of system, manufacturing and in‑service defects.
  • Maintaining the control, issue and return of tools, equipment and materials.
  • Working safely within all Health and Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work and control of work processes.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by suggesting better ways of working to enhance productivity.

This is a full‑time role working 36 hours per week, based on site at HMNB Clyde. Set working times are Monday to Thursday.

Essential experience:

  • Experience supporting fleet engineering activities and equipment such as scaffolding, forklift truck operations or slinging.
  • Competence in manual handling within an industrial or operational environment.
  • Experience using Risk Assessments, COSHH and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Experience controlling, issuing and returning work equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Full UK Driving Licence (Category B).
  • Additional operational training such as forklift or slinging can be provided where required.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
