Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Nuclear Team, we are looking to enhance our technical capabilities and are seeking a Senior Safety Case Expert, to join our team. This role offers the chance to participate in multi-disciplinary projects at various stages of the lifecycle, from client consultancy to comprehensive turn‑key solutions. You will have the vision, passion and track record required to support us with our continued growth of our nuclear offering.

You will contribute to the development of a strong and effective team, supporting the delivery of high-quality work under the guidance of senior staff. In this important role, you will work closely with clients, partners, and contractors, assisting with communication and coordination across key project stages. You will support the delivery of projects from concept through to completion, including involvement in design, procurement, subcontracting, factory acceptance, installation, site acceptance, and commissioning.

This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in safety case development, offering the opportunity to work on a wide range of high-profile, short and long‑term projects within the sector. You will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and develop your expertise while working alongside experienced professionals.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Leadership & Management:

  • Nuclear safety case practitioner who will support the nuclear portfolio in AECOM (Civil and Defence).
  • Supports maintaining resource competence (SQEP).

Technical Delivery:

  • Supports efforts to win work, including supporting the bidding process with respect to nuclear safety.
  • Responsible for safety case delivery on projects.
  • Develops relationships with clients to deliver a 'right first time' approach for technical delivery.
  • Advises AECOM teams and clients on regulatory compliance, standards and guidance.
  • Supports AECOM and client organisations in interactions with regulators and safety committees.
  • Applies knowledge and experience to resolve emergent issues and/or unique conditions to move projects forward.

Development & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Supports mentoring and coaching for the nuclear safety case team.
  • Supports the development and delivery of nuclear safety training to internal and external stakeholders, as well as contributing to multidisciplinary knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in approach and best practice.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Honours (2:1 or above) or Masters degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline (or an equivalent mixture of qualifications and experiences from the UK nuclear industry).
  • Chartership (or working towards) in a STEM discipline with a Professional Institution.
  • Experience of developing nuclear safety cases in civil and/or defence nuclear sectors.
  • Experience of providing mentoring, training and coaching activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate competencies at a level commensurate with the role as defined in the Nuclear Safety Case Discipline Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) Competency Framework.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance to Security Check (SC) level.
