The role involves:

  • Playing a critical role in helping ensure Babcock remains a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible organisation.
  • Implementing strategic and operational SHE plans that directly support our mission to deliver world-class engineering solutions for national defence.
  • Partnering with teams across the dockyard, influencing safer ways of working and making a measurable impact on the wellbeing of colleagues, the public and the environment.
  • Providing advice on safe systems of work and supporting managers and risk assessors with developing effective risk assessments.
  • Supporting the Health and Safety Manager to promote safe working practices through preventative and remedial initiatives.
  • Supporting the delivery of the health, safety and environmental audit programme and maintaining accurate records.
  • Carrying out regular workplace inspections and informal walkabouts to monitor safe-working compliance.
  • Assisting with event investigations, ensuring lessons learned drive continuous improvement and incident prevention.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience:

  • Demonstrable passion for Safety, Health and Environment, supported by evidence at interview.
  • Extensive relevant SHE experience in a hazardous industry (e.g., construction), ideally with knowledge of dockyard or naval operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Experience working with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Basic understanding of nuclear site licence requirements - Desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Level 3 accredited Health and Safety Qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate).
  • Ambition to achieve Chartered status with IOSH or similar body.
  • NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 6+ in Occupational Safety & Health - Desirable.
  • Approved Auditor qualification (or equivalent experience) - Desirable.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Environmental Management - Desirable.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role.
