Mechanical Fitter Opportunities

Location: Plymouth, Devon

Compensation: £36,951.00 + Benefits – Gross OTE £52,918

Shape the Future of Marine Engineering – As a Mechanical Fitter you will assemble and maintain advanced mechanical systems at historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, contributing to the readiness of the Royal Navy’s fleet. You will work in a safety‑critical, dynamic environment and collaborate with expert teams to accelerate your career development.

What you’ll do:

  • Installing, aligning, and assembling mechanical components to precise tolerances.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Operating workshop machinery and specialised tools.
  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems.
  • Conducting functional tests, leak detection, and pressure testing.

What you’ll need:

  • Proficient in the maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulic, pneumatic, rotating, and static mechanical systems with a marine, nuclear, heavy mechanical, or industrial environment.
  • Proficient in laser alignment, vibration analysis, and system commissioning/decommissioning.
  • Self‑driven with a strong commitment to career development and continuous improvement.
  • Holds a time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering/Fitting.
  • Experienced in mentoring apprentices and sharing technical knowledge with peers.
