The role

As a Data Management Engineer, you’ll support the transformational rollout of a modern Completions Management System (CMS) across ASTUTE and VANGUARD class submarine maintenance periods at Devonport. The system provides a single point of truth for completion events during inspection, testing and acceptance, significantly improving safety, quality and effectiveness across high‑priority programmes. Day‑to‑day, you’ll play a central role in bringing digital capability to critical engineering work, directly improving how we deliver essential defence programmes. It’s a chance to develop your technical expertise, gain exposure across production, commissioning and quality functions, and advance your career in defence, aerospace and engineering.

  • Support the rollout and ongoing implementation of the Completions Management System across submarine upkeep and refit projects.
  • Provide training support to operational teams and coordinate ongoing CMS process and administration.
  • Manage the deployment, maintenance and security compliance of CMS mobile devices.
  • Generate reports to meet project and stakeholder needs, ensuring data accuracy and quality.
  • Attend CMS Working Groups and progress meetings, coordinating CMS development, demonstrations and data maintenance activities.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Data Management Engineer

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with individuals and teams.
  • IT Literate with a good knowledge of MS Office Packages – (Excel)
  • Strong working knowledge of production, commissioning and quality processes, including Safe System of Work and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting technical, digital or engineering‑related systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of Data Management Systems and or Completions Management Systems – Desirable

Qualifications for the Data Management Engineer

  • ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline with relevant, extensive practical experience.
  • Additional qualification or training related to commissioning, digital systems or engineering administration – Desirable

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
