The role:

  • As a Constructive Engineering Specialist Submarine Structures, you will be recognised as a subject matter expert within Babcock, providing authoritative technical leadership across submarine structural disciplines.
  • This is a strategically important role, partnering closely with the MoD to solve complex engineering challenges and influence both in‑service support and future submarine design.
  • Day‑to‑day, you’ll use your deep expertise to resolve complex technical challenges and provide authoritative assurance across your specialist area.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing authoritative technical advice and independent assurance on complex submarine structural issues.
  • Leading the development of technical guidance, training materials and capability plans to strengthen in‑service engineering knowledge.
  • Advising on emerging techniques and technologies to enhance submarine supportability and programme efficiency.
  • Representing Babcock at internal and external technical forums, influencing engineering direction and customer decisions.
  • Contributing to technical papers and reports that raise Babcock’s profile within the submarine engineering community.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience:

  • Extensive experience in submarine build or in‑service constructive engineering and maintenance.
  • Deep understanding of submarine structures, operation and maintenance within a defence environment.
  • Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and positively influencing technical capability.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a complex, high‑assurance environment.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable expertise within a relevant submarine structural discipline gained through career experience.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
