The role:

As a Principal Digital Engineer, you’ll take a senior leadership position at the forefront of digital transformation within one of the UK’s most critical engineering environments. You’ll drive the digital engineering strategy across high‑profile Naval Nuclear programmes, supporting the evolution of information management, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and project technology capabilities that underpin complex defence and infrastructure delivery. Day‑to‑day, you’ll have the chance to shape how digital innovation is implemented across major engineering, construction and commissioning projects, ensuring best practice, technical excellence and future‑focused digital solutions. You’ll gain exposure across multidisciplinary teams and high‑value programmes, building deep technical and leadership experience that will fuel your long‑term career development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development, review and implementation of digital engineering workflows, processes and project‑wide digital intent.
  • Ensuring high‑quality digital deliverables from project and engineering teams, maintaining compliance with standards and client expectations.
  • Overseeing digital engineers’ workload, focusing teams on accurate, timely delivery across BIM and information management activities.
  • Conducting BIM and digital assessments, producing detailed reports, technical notes and risk documentation to mitigate delivery concerns.
  • Working with stakeholders to develop and realise BIM, digital and information management strategies while guiding digital best practice across the organisation.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience:

  • Strong background in digital engineering management, quality and delivery.
  • Expertise in BIM, CAD and Information Management, including ISO 19650 compliance.
  • Experience producing BIM Execution Plans, master and task information delivery plans.
  • Ability to develop and manage digital workflows such as clash detection, design coordination and COBie/IFC data reviews.
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders and working at a senior or principal level, ideally within a highly regulated environment such as nuclear or defence.

Qualifications:

  • Degree and chartership strongly preferred, though applicants with significant relevant experience will be considered.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
