Location: Bristol/ South-West is preferable but would consider any office for the right candidate.

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

We’re seeking a Senior Nuclear Safety Case Professional to join our diverse team and play a role in leading and growing our support to existing and new nuclear projects.

Role Overview: We support clients in all parts of the UK civil and defence nuclear industry, as well as a wide range of non‑reactor, and experimental or demonstrator facilities. As an experienced safety professional, you will be expected to lead and undertake project work for clients on, or in support of, significant nuclear safety cases, and supervise other staff in doing such work. You’ll develop a proven track record of using your experience and knowledge in the nuclear industry to assess and justify safety. You’ll also oversee and manage projects, develop and hold client relationships, and win new work; as well as supporting and coaching junior colleagues’ development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies to tackle complex nuclear safety challenges.
  • Lead technical tasks such as safety assessment, hazard identification, fault schedules, design basis analysis, probabilistic analysis, safety functional requirements.
  • Conduct periodic review of safety of nuclear facilities.
  • Qualification and substantiation of systems against safety requirements.
  • Internal and external hazards assessments.
  • Safety case development and support for nuclear and non‑nuclear plant.
  • Authoring or reviewing and verifying safety‑related documents.

Potential Areas of Work:

  • The UK operational fleet of nuclear reactors, keeping them operating or preparing for defueling and decommissioning.
  • The next generation of nuclear reactors – GW scale, SMRs and AMRs.
  • Sites and facilities throughout the NDA estate.
  • Defence nuclear facilities.
  • The current and future UK submarine fleet.

Essential Requirements:

  • Demonstrable 10+ years of civil nuclear or defence nuclear infrastructure experience.
  • A Degree, Master’s or PhD in a relevant STEM subject.
  • Strong experience and understanding of:
    • The UK regulatory regime for nuclear safety cases and safety management.
    • Nuclear safety case requirements, processes, terminology and documentation.
    • Safety analysis and safety justification methods as they are used in the nuclear industry.
  • Strong organisational skills and proven track record of leading technical teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptability and ability to operate autonomously.
  • An appetite to continually learn, improve and stretch yourself.
  • A willingness to travel and spend time on client sites.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working for multiple site licensee companies.
  • Both reactor and non‑reactor plant.
  • Technical oversight, leadership, and independent review.
  • Experience in project management and commercial aspects.
  • Technical consultancy experience.
  • Chartered with a professional institution.
  • Ability to hold DV clearance.
