Salary: £45,000 to £67,000 per annum depending on experience.

Location: Bristol or Gloucester (may also consider other FNC offices).

Working pattern: Flexible hybrid – time split between office, client sites, and remote work.

We support clients across the UK civil and defence nuclear industry, including non‑reactor, experimental and small‑scale projects, providing technical expertise in design, construction, operation, inspection, maintenance and decommissioning within the safety case framework.

We are looking for a candidate to undertake significant safety case and assurance tasks, assess engineering problems, justify solutions, build client relationships and support new business. Rapid learning of new systems, clear communication and a cooperative attitude are essential.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute strategies to tackle nuclear safety challenges.
  • Perform technical tasks such as HAZID, fault schedule development, design basis analysis, probabilistic analysis, safety functional requirements, and HAZOP.
  • Conduct periodic safety reviews of nuclear facilities.
  • Qualification and substantiation of systems against safety requirements.
  • Internal and external hazard assessments.
  • Safety case development and support for nuclear and non‑nuclear plant.
  • Author safety‑related technical documents, summarise information and assemble arguments to justify safety.

Essential qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in civil or defence nuclear, including safety experience.
  • A degree, master’s or PhD in a relevant STEM subject.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly and adapt to changing project demands.
  • Desire to continually learn, improve and stretch yourself.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Technical oversight and leadership experience.
  • Commercial/project management experience.
  • Technical consultancy experience.
  • Chartered status (or working towards) with a professional institution.

Applicants will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy UK National Security Vetting clearance criteria.
