Lead Complex Engineering That Keeps the UK Safe

The role

As an Engineering Manager you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll lead the delivery of high-impact performance engineering across complex defence programmes. You’ll shape engineering strategy, improve asset availability, and drive innovation using data-led insights. This is a leadership role with real influence - where your decisions directly enhance operational capability and engineering excellence across the submarine support enterprise. You’ll also grow your career by leading high-performing teams and working alongside industry-leading experts.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Deliver engineering outcomes across performance engineering, including availability analysis and maintenance improvements
  • Lead development and execution of engineering roadmaps to improve asset performance and reliability
  • Analyse data to generate insights, supporting operational decisions and performance reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using maintenance data, logistics analysis, and modelling techniques
  • Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams while building strong stakeholder relationships

This role is full time, 35 hours per week, and based at our Bristol site. Hybrid working patterns are available.

Essential experience of the Engineering Manager

  • Demonstrated experience within the submarine support enterprise or complex defence engineering environments
  • Strong understanding of Integrated Logistics Support or Integrated Product Support principles and their impact on asset availability
  • Proven experience in engineering leadership and team management
  • Track record of delivering change and driving successful engineering outcomes

Qualifications for the Engineering Manager

  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognised Engineering Council institution, or equivalent experience and professional standing

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
