The role
As a Bid Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-value, strategically important bids—supporting programmes worth billions of pounds that underpin national security and defence capability. You’ll work at the heart of our Business Growth function, coordinating complex proposals, aligning cross-functional teams, and ensuring every submission meets the highest standards. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role where you’ll collaborate with experienced bid professionals and stakeholders across Business Development, Engineering, Commercial, Finance, and operational teams. It’s a brilliant opportunity to build your career in Defence, aerospace and Engineering Bid Management while developing specialist bid management expertise while making a tangible impact on Babcock’s growth and future success.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Coordinating bid management plans, schedules, and documentation for a major Defence programme.
- Supporting the organisation of bid meetings including procurement management, Kick-Offs, reviews, and stakeholder engagements.
- Managing procurement portals and ensuring accurate and timely submission of bid materials.
- Producing regular bid reports and tracking progress against milestones and deliverables.
- Facilitating Gate governance processes, including supporting Gates 0–6 approvals within the Babcock bid lifecycle.
This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth and hybrid working patterns are available.
Essential experience of the Bid Coordinator
Ideally you will have 1-2 years’ experience in bid coordination or proposal Bid support roles. Strong understanding of governance frameworks, including structured bid methodologies, Gate Governance review processes, and Shipley colour team reviews. Good knowledge of UK MOD procurement processes, portals, and commercial contracting mechanisms. Experience operating within complex, large-scale engineering, defence, or comparable environments. Willingness to travel within the UK.
Qualifications for the Bid Coordinator
- Association of Proposal Management Professionals membership (Desirable)
- APMP Bid or Proposal Foundation Certification (Desirable)
- APMP Bid or Proposal Practitioner Certification (Advantageous)
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
