The role:
As an Assistant Project Controls Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a key role in ensuring complex defence projects stay on track, within scope, and aligned to critical programme objectives. Working within the Submarine Disposal and Dismantling Programme, you’ll support the management of change across project baselines, helping deliver robust performance insights that underpin national security outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in project controls within a dynamic defence, aerospace and engineering environment, gaining exposure to high-profile programmes and a wide range of stakeholders.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Manage change control trackers and registers, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records
- Support the evaluation of change impacts across scope, schedule, and cost
- Maintain and update project baselines to reflect approved changes
- Produce reports and insights to support project decision-making
- Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders across the programme to ensure effective change management
This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, based at Devonport. Flexible working arrangements are available.
Essential experience:
- Demonstrate strong communication skills when working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Show confidence working with detailed data and information in a structured way
- Use Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint effectively
- Bring a proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
- Understand project management or project controls principles (desirable)
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified or equivalent relevant experience (essential)
- Project Controls or Project Management qualifications such as APM Project Fundamentals Qualification or Project Planning and Control (desirable)
- Membership of, or willingness to join, a relevant professional body such as the Association for Project Management (desirable)
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
