Why NTS?

At Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS), our people are trusted to perform, supported to grow and encouraged to be curious and innovative.

As part of the NDA Group, we deliver critical transport and logistics services that support the UK's nuclear industry.

Our Legal team is highly regarded across the business, providing strategic advice to Executive leaders, Boards and operational teams on some of the most interesting and complex challenges in the sector.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in shaping employment law strategy, managing complex employee relations matters and influencing how we support our people across a unique, safety-critical organisation.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced employment lawyer to join our high-performing Legal team as a Senior Legal Counsel, specialising in Employment Law.

You'll be the principal legal adviser on employment-related matters across NTS and its subsidiaries, partnering closely with HR, senior leaders and Executive teams to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice that enables the business to achieve its objectives whilst effectively managing legal risk.

The role combines strategic employment law expertise with hands-on support for complex and sensitive employee relations issues, organisational change programmes, industrial relations matters and employment litigation.

You'll also contribute to wider corporate governance, compliance and legal risk management activities and provide leadership within the Legal function.

  • What You'll Be Doing
  • Acting as NTS's lead legal adviser on employment law and labour relations matters.
  • Advising on a broad range of employment issues including disciplinary, grievance, performance, sickness absence, discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE, redundancy and workplace investigations.
  • Managing and working closely with external law firms on Employment Tribunal claims and employment litigation matters, including the instruction, coordination and oversight of external counsel as required.
  • Providing strategic advice on labour relations matters.
  • Partnering with HR and business leaders to develop legally compliant and commercially effective people policies, procedures and practices.
  • Delivering training and guidance to managers, HR teams and senior stakeholders on employment law developments and people-related risk.
  • Monitoring legislative developments and advising on the impact of changes in UK employment law.
  • Supporting the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel with legal risk management, governance and compliance activities.
  • Building strong relationships across the NDA Group legal community and external legal advisers.
  • Who We're Looking For

You'll be an experienced employment lawyer who combines strong technical expertise with commercial judgement and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Essential Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England and Wales.
  • Typically 8+ years' post-qualification experience.
  • Significant experience advising on UK employment law within either a leading law firm or in-house environment.
  • Strong track record of handling complex labour relations matters and employment litigation.
  • Experience providing advice to senior leadership teams in a commercially focused organisation.
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and pragmatically to non-legal audiences.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering under pressure.

Desirable Experience

  • In-house experience within a regulated or safety-critical environment.
  • Experience advising on data protection and employee privacy matters.
  • Knowledge of public sector, government-owned or NDA Group environments.
  • Experience working with risk, compliance, governance, audit or regulatory functions within a regulated organisation, including anti-bribery and corruption matters.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and mitigating legal and regulatory risks, and supporting the development and implementation of associated controls, policies and governance processes.
  • Ability to contribute to corporate risk registers, provide risk-based advice to senior leaders and support assurance, audit and regulatory activities.

Skills & Behaviours

We're looking for someone who

  • Builds trusted relationships and credibility quickly.
  • Is commercially minded and solutions focused.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and integrity.
  • Communicates with confidence and influence.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • Can balance legal risk with business objectives.
  • Is adaptable, resilient and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • The Kind of People We're Looking For

We're interested in who you are, not just what's on your CV.

You'll likely thrive at NTS if you

  • Take ownership and accountability for your work.
  • Enjoy partnering with people across different functions.
  • Are curious, proactive and keen to improve how things are done.
  • Communicate openly and act with integrity.
  • Are comfortable providing constructive challenge when required.
  • Want to make a meaningful contribution to an organisation with an important national purpose.

  • 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Nuclear Pension
