The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

In this role, you will act as the primary NTS expert in transport criticality, providing specialist guidance across the organisation and leading the development and delivery of criticality safety cases that enable the safe transport of Radioactive Material (RAM). You will proactively drive innovation in criticality assessment, reviewing, adopting and implementing national and international best practice, and developing novel methodologies and advanced computational approaches to maintain NTS’s position as an industry leader. You will deliver a portfolio of criticality studies and safety cases to time, quality and budget whilst supporting wider projects across the business. A key part of the role is developing and maintaining criticality capability within the CAST team and the broader technical community, ensuring that the skills, processes and knowledge essential to the NDA mission remain strong now and in the future.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Desirable)

  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Recognised expert practitioner in criticality safety applicable to transport
  • Proven track record in the technical leadership of criticality safety assessment
  • Good first degree in a STEM subject and further degree and/or professionally qualified; prior SQEP status may substitute for formal qualifications if adequately demonstrated
  • Detailed knowledge/understanding/experience of IAEA SSR 6 and SSG 26 in support of criticality safety assessment requirements in for fissile material transport
  • Ability to run criticality modelling calculations and interpret the results (using Regulator recognised codes such as MONK and MCNP)
  • Understanding of other technical disciplines including shielding, licensing and Engineering D&A, which contribute to the overall safety of a transport package
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with other areas of NTS and or the Client to ensure studies undertaken build knowledge that can support delivery solutions
  • Chartered status or membership of a professional institute
  • Line management of a technical team
