We are seeking a Waste Compliance & Assurance Specialist to play a key role at NRS Dounreay. In this position, you’ll provide independent oversight and assurance across waste management systems, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and licence requirements while driving continuous improvement in performance and standards. NRS Dounreay is part of Nuclear Restoration Services, responsible for the safe and secure decommissioning of the historic Dounreay nuclear site. The mission is to reduce environmental liabilities and deliver a site that is safe for future generations, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship.

The Role

As a Waste Compliance & Assurance Specialist, you will support the Waste Compliance & Assurance Manager in delivering effective waste compliance arrangements across the site. You will help ensure all waste activities meet regulatory expectations, promote best practice, and drive continuous improvement in waste management systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, undertake, review, and report on compliance and quality assurance assessments in line with the Waste LoD2 Assurance Plan and Programme.
  • Provide effective challenge and oversight of waste obligations and arrangements across NRS Dounreay.
  • Identify and track non-compliances and non-conformances, ensuring timely progression of corrective actions.
  • Maintain and monitor the compliance assessment database.
  • Liaise with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulators as required.
  • Support compliance with ISO standards, site licence conditions, and environmental permits.
  • Analyse and trend waste compliance data (including incidents, rejects, and non-conformances) to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Waste Management System.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions on waste processes and practices.
  • Undertake responsibilities linked to relevant authorisations, including acting as deputy EPRP for the Waste Management Licence.
