Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations and research sites. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at a hydroelectric plant. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About The Role
We welcome mechanically minded individuals who can bring drive and enthusiasm to our highly skilled, multi-disciplined maintenance team. Within the team, we have developed a strong safety culture while promoting a can-do attitude that enables us to constantly deliver maintenance tasks on time, to the highest standards. The successful applicant needs to be a team player, willing to undertake tasks outside their core skills and possess a safety-focused mindset essential to working within the nuclear industry.
Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out pre-planned and reactive maintenance on Mechanical assets including pumps, cranes, hydraulic systems, vent systems and compressors.
- Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices with the ability to read and understand a full range of engineering drawings.
- Ensuring maintenance plans and targets are achieved safely and within environmental parameters of the Site.
- Carrying out analysis and fault diagnosis of plant and communicating findings back to the Team Leader or Maintenance Engineer.
- Being authorised to hold safety documents and work to prescribed electrical and mechanical safety rules within radiological and contaminated controlled areas.
- Following prescribed verbal and written work instructions, check sheets and other QA documentation to ensure compliance is always maintained.
Qualifications and Experience
(Essential) Appropriate technical qualification e.g. City and Guilds, BTEC ONC, (NQF Level 3)
(Essential) Relevant experience in Technical Discipline
(Desirable) Experience of working in the Nuclear Industry

Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) staff should refer to the document titled “Spot Point v Grade alignment” available on SharePoint for more information on how the grade structure aligns to Spot Points. Flexible working – where possible. The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service, and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service. You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year. Flexible benefits scheme – including cycle to work and reduced gym membership fees. Participation in our Company Bonus Scheme (up to £5,750 per annum based on corporate objectives).
