Cyber Security Specialist

Full-Time On-site
N

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cyber Security Specialist to play a key role in protecting our organisation, our information and the services we provide. This is a varied and influential position where you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day assurance of cyber security controls, working with colleagues and specialist service providers to identify risks, strengthen resilience and continuously improve our security arrangements.

You’ll be joining a role where your expertise can make a real difference. Alongside managing technical security activities, you’ll help build a strong security culture across NRS, providing trusted advice, raising cyber awareness and supporting our preparedness for emerging threats and incidents.

What you'll be doing:

Working closely with colleagues across the business and our IT service provider, you’ll provide practical cyber security expertise and assurance to help protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of NRS information and systems. You’ll have the opportunity to influence improvements, manage key technical workstreams and contribute directly to our wider cyber security and resilience programme.

  • Identify, assess and manage cyber security risks, threats and vulnerabilities, developing proportionate controls and practical improvement plans that protect NRS while supporting business objectives.
  • Provide expert cyber security advice and assurance, working closely with business users and our IT service provider to ensure contracted security controls are effective, addressing corrective actions where required.
  • Support security assurance and resilience activities, including internal and external audits, ONR interventions, business continuity activities and membership of the Cyber Incident Response Team.
  • Drive cyber security improvements and awareness, managing agreed technical workstreams while delivering training, guidance and engagement that helps create a strong and proactive security culture across NRS.

What you'll bring:

We’re looking for someone with a strong grounding in IT and cyber security who can combine technical knowledge with a practical, collaborative approach. You’ll be comfortable assessing risks, working with different stakeholders and translating security requirements into clear, pragmatic solutions. Just as importantly, you’ll be able to communicate confidently with colleagues and help make cyber security relevant and accessible across the organisation.

  • An HNC in Cyber Security/IT or an equivalent qualification or level of relevant practical experience.
  • Foundation Certificate in Information Security Management Principles.
  • Strong, comprehensive IT experience, providing you with a solid understanding of technology, systems and associated security considerations.
  • Demonstrable experience in cyber or IT security, with the ability to apply your knowledge confidently in a working environment.
  • Post specific capability analysis assessment

We are looking to hold interviews week commencing Monday 26 October 2026, however, please note that this vacancy may close earlier than the stated deadline should we receive a high volume of applications, so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.
