Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations and research sites. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at a hydroelectric plant. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

NRS is an exciting place to be, and this role is the perfect opportunity for you to be part of our challenging mission – to safely and successfully manage the UK’s civil nuclear legacy on behalf of the nation. To deliver our commitment, we need people like you who want to perform at an industry-leading standard and be part of a team that continues to develop, innovate and even exceed our greatest achievements.

At NRS, we understand, and acknowledge the value of an inclusive working environment, and celebrate the diversity this brings to our workplace.

About The Role

Join Hinkley Point A on one of our biggest years in decommissioning. Hinkley Point A is looking for an experienced Accredited Health Physicist to join us for a 1-year secondment period to be involved with a site in one of its busiest phases of decommissioning. Over the next twelve months the site will be loading the first waste into its Interim Storage Facility, proceeding in the design of the innovative Vault Retrieval Project and continuing with our extensive waste programme and asset management projects.

In this role, you’ll provide specialist radiological advice across the site, supporting projects and programmes with detailed risk assessments, compliance documentation and ALARP strategies. You’ll play a key part in developing and implementing new radiological protection practices, commissioning advanced equipment and ensuring work instructions meet the highest safety standards. Your expertise will guide critical decisions, from reviewing safety cases to advising on PPE and waste management, while liaising with regulators and inspectors to maintain best-in-class performance.

This is more than a technical role, it’s an opportunity to influence the future of nuclear safety and sustainability. You’ll contribute to the training of junior Radiological Protection Engineers, continuous improvement across the site and emergency preparedness, all while working in a collaborative environment that values your growth and impact.

What You Bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a strong foundation in radiological protection and compliance. Your expertise should include a detailed understanding of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, ensuring you can provide authoritative guidance on compliance and best practice. We’re looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with practical experience. You’ll have worked in specialist roles and ideally within a nuclear site environment, applying your skills to complex challenges. Accreditation as a Health Physicist is essential and if you’re already a Radiation Protection Adviser, that’s a strong advantage.

Benefits Package

  • Flexible working – where possible.
  • The equivalent of 25 days annual leave plus Public Holidays. This increases by 2 days annual leave after two full calendar years of service, and an additional 3 days annual leave after five full calendar years of service.
  • Flexible benefits scheme – including cycle to work and reduced gym membership fees.
  • Participation in our Company Bonus Scheme (up to £5,750 per annum based on corporate objectives).
  • Employee Assistance Programme including 24-hour telephone support & personal assistance service and access to an online wellbeing App.
  • Up to 13.5% employer pension contribution depending on individual contribution amount.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay (dependent on service).
  • Access to training and development through the company performance management arrangements, supporting you in maintaining your personal Continuous Professional Development.

Please note: All successful candidates will need to provide proof of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment/education history in line with NRS Baseline Security requirements. Some roles may also require full Security Clearance, which involves additional checks.

We offer flexibility on base location for multi-site roles and are happy to discuss flexible working options. At NRS, we value diversity and inclusion and encourage applications from underrepresented groups.
