Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations and research sites. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at a hydroelectric plant. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development. About The Role

Are you a passionate asbestos professional who could support our decommissioning mission in making sure that compliance remains the forefront of what we do? As a Lead Asbestos Competent Person, you will join the central asbestos technical team focused on implementing and continually improving arrangements for asbestos management across the NRS estate. Our team’s focus is to ensure that all work complies with company procedures and a broad range of Health and Safety Executive legislation, approved code of practice, guidance and technical working group best practice to provide a consistently high level of asbestos management.

This opportunity will present you with the chance to use your existing knowledge and expertise in an exciting, varied and interesting industry. I am looking for someone who can develop into a collaborative member of the team, enabling innovative projects which provide long term benefits to manage and reduce the asbestos hazard legacy across our premises.

Please note this role is based centrally but your nearest NRS site will be designated your base.

Key Deliverables

  • Supporting the Head of Profession (Asbestos) in ensuring that all asbestos related activities are undertaken in accordance with the company arrangements and all legislation and guidance pertaining to asbestos.
  • Developing and maintaining the arrangements for asbestos management compliance.
  • Provide authoritative subject matter expert advice and guidance on asbestos management.
  • Carry out assurance reviews of asbestos management arrangements centrally and on sites, highlighting any actions with proactive and innovative solution-based advice.
  • Lead by example to ensure that company values are promoted and upheld and work collaboratively with colleagues and off-site contacts.
  • Review of project produced delivery specifications.
  • Provide solution-based mediation of compliance and technical matters between projects, sites and contract partners.
  • Engagement with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Support the business implementation of asbestos management arrangements.
  • Support the management of land contamination plans as required.
  • Identify good practice in the business and externally and promote and deploy across the sites.
  • Provide expert-level advice, support and guidance on issues throughout the business.
  • Support delivery with proactive innovative solution-based advice within their range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
  • Contribute to the effective development and delivery of coaching and/or training within their own area of specialism.
  • Drive improvements in asbestos management.
  • Ensure that adequate records are maintained to meet statutory and Company requirements.

Qualifications And Experience

  • NQF to level 5 (England and Wales) and level 8 (Scotland) e.g. HND or equivalent experience (essential).
  • BOHS P405 course and pass assessment, BOHS certificate of competence in asbestos (CoC), or verified equivalent course (essential).
  • BOHS P407 (D407) course and pass assessment, or NOCN D417 course and pass assessment, or verified equivalent course (desirable).
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant asbestos management legislation (essential).
  • Experience of delivering asbestos management arrangements (essential).
  • CAR-SOILS course attendance (desirable).
  • ASBESTOS MANAGERS course and pass assessment (essential).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and membership of a relevant professional body (essential).
  • Experience in nuclear industry (desirable).

  • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year).
  • This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service, and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service.
