Are you ready to lead engineering work that directly shapes the future of decommissioning at one of the UK’s most recognisable nuclear sites? This role puts you at the centre of Waste and Decommissioning projects at Wylfa, guiding technical delivery from early concept through to routine operations. The post is based at Wylfa, with occasional support to Trawsfynydd as business needs require. Working from Monday to Thursday would be ideal for someone seeking a four‑day working week while still making a meaningful impact. This is your chance to influence major programmes, support expert teams and drive high standards across complex engineering activity.

What you will be doing

As Project Engineering Lead, you will develop and lead the site's project engineering capability, ensuring robust technical oversight and the safe delivery of engineering work. You will play a key role in installing, commissioning and handing over essential Waste and Decommissioning systems into operations, keeping the site’s decommissioning mission progressing safely and efficiently. You will support end‑to‑end project delivery, working closely with designers, safety specialists and operational teams to deliver engineering solutions that are compliant, pragmatic and ready for routine use. The role also offers opportunities to influence wider engineering strategies and strengthen project performance across multi‑disciplinary programmes.

  • Develop and maintain engineering strategies across design, safety case production and commissioning
  • Act as Commissioning Lead when required and provide technical supervision to project teams
  • Ensure high‑quality system handover, including documentation, training and operational readiness
  • Champion strong standards in safety, environment, security and quality and drive continuous improvement

Who we are looking for

You will be someone who enjoys collaborative working, clear communication and steering engineering work toward safe, well‑reasoned outcomes. You will bring sound judgement, strong organisational skills and the confidence to guide others through technical decision making. A degree‑level qualification in engineering or a related discipline, along with substantial experience in the Nuclear, Process or Construction sectors, is essential. You will also need a solid understanding of CDM regulations, experience of design and safety justification processes, and a proven record of delivering engineering projects on time and to the expected safety standards.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong working knowledge of technical, health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Detailed understanding of the Principal Designer role under CDM
  • Experience of managing engineering delivery from concept to handover
  • Practical involvement in design, safety case and commissioning activities

Experience in contract management, membership of a professional engineering institution or working toward chartership would be beneficial. Knowledge of Nuclear Site Licence requirements or Quality Management Systems would also be helpful, though not essential. If you want to take on meaningful technical leadership and support the decommissioning mission at a nationally significant site, we would be pleased to hear from you.
