This is a senior, hands‑on role for an experienced operations leader who can bring structure, consistency and commercial discipline to a specialist consultancy operating in a regulated and technical market.
The Operations Director will be responsible for making sure NCL runs reliably across finance, commercial operations, business operations, people and capability, communications, legal support, systems, reporting, quality management and the operations manual. This is a fractional and non‑exclusive role, suited to someone who can provide senior operational leadership without needing to be embedded full‑time in the business.
Key responsibilities- Chair the Operations Board and maintain NCL’s operations reporting cadence.
- Ensure management accounts, cashflow, budgeting and operational forecasts are produced reliably and on time.
- Run operational controls across proposals, contracts, onboarding, capability records and management information.
- Coordinate finance, commercial operations, business operations, people and capability, communications and marketing, legal support, and IT/systems support.
- Own the completion, adoption and continuous improvement of the operations manual and quality management system.
- Manage the annual operations budget and ensure the fractional operations team delivers the required functions within it.
- Escalate material legal, commercial, systems, people or reporting risks to the Company Board.
We are looking for someone who is calm, organised, commercially minded and confident working across a growing consultancy environment.
You will have:
- Experience as an operations leader in a consultancy, professional‑services, regulated or technical business.
- Strong financial‑control discipline, including management accounts, budgets, cashflow and reporting timetables.
- Practical understanding of contracts, commercial processes, legal support, ISO/QMS work and systems implementation.
- The ability to coordinate a fractional team and external providers without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Experience building repeatable processes from a previously informal operating model.
- The confidence to challenge delivery and commercial teams on process compliance where needed.
This is a fractional, non‑exclusive role. The indicative personal commitment is approximately 20 to 25 days per year in Year 1, rising to approximately 45 days or more by Year 5. The role will also coordinate a wider fractional operations team, with additional support flexing around reporting, systems, quality, legal and commercial workload. The role will be remunerated on a pro‑rated hourly or daily basis at a competitive market rate.
