Are you passionate about building trusted, traceable, and high-quality data foundations across complex organisations? We are looking for an experienced Authoritative Data Sourcing & Data Lineage Lead to shape and drive my clients enterprise-wide approach to trusted data sourcing and end-to-end data traceability. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will be responsible for ensuring data across the organisation is credible, governed, auditable, and aligned with both business and regulatory expectations.
You will play a critical role in developing and embedding governance standards, identifying and certifying authoritative data sources, and driving robust data lineage practices that support confident decision-making across the business.
The Role
As the Authoritative Data Sourcing & Data Lineage Lead, you will lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of governance processes, policies, and standards relating to authoritative data sourcing (ADS) and data lineage (DL). You will work closely with data owners, delivery teams, procurement, architecture, compliance, and audit functions to ensure consistent adoption of trusted data practices across the organisation. This role combines strategic leadership, technical governance, stakeholder engagement, and team capability building to drive data governance maturity and ensure strong, reliable data foundations.
Key Responsibilities
- Governance & Operating Model
- Lead the definition, implementation, and enforcement of ADS and DL governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Champion the use of certified authoritative data sources across the organisation
- Drive data governance maturity by promoting adherence to lineage standards and ensuring trusted, auditable data foundations
- Delivery & Execution
- Own and manage the ADS and DL workplan, roadmap, and delivery milestones
- Prioritise backlogs with data owners, delivery teams, and key stakeholders
- Ensure successful delivery of ADS and DL initiatives aligned to strategic business priorities
- External Data Sourcing & Procurement
- Lead external data sourcing, procurement, and intake processes
- Collaborate with Procurement, Architecture, Data Owners, and other stakeholders to ensure robust sourcing decisions
- Technical Leadership
- Provide oversight and quality assurance across ADS and DL activities
- Ensure all work aligns with data governance standards, policies, and architectural principles
- Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for ADS and DL across the organisation
- Drive change management communications and adoption strategies
- Engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including compliance and audit teams
- Team Capability Building
- Provide coaching, training, and support to team members and wider business users
- Build understanding of authoritative data usage, lineage processes, and data quality expectations
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong data governance expertise with exceptional leadership and stakeholder management skills. You will bring:
- Proven ability to manage enterprise-wide ADS and DL workplans and roadmaps
- Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, stewardship models, ownership structures, and approval processes
- Strong experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver data governance initiatives
- Demonstrated expertise in Authoritative Data Sourcing and/or Data Lineage within a data governance or data architecture environment
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams of data professionals
