Our client is currently seeking qualified staff nurses (RNs) in their nursing homes. The ideal staff nurses will report to the team leader and must have experience of working with elderly people in a nursing home environment.

Location: Northern Ireland

Rate: up to £48

Reporting to: Home manager and agency manager

Job setting: Nursing Home

Job summary:

  • The ideal staff nurses must have 2 years’ experience of working with elderly people in a nursing home environment.
  • Be a qualified RN and have sound knowledge of current issues in care for elderly.
  • Have a valid NMC PIN.
  • Valid permit to work in the UK.
  • Be able to complete an enhanced disclosure check-ACCESS NI.
  • Be able to work on own initiative.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Monitor Residents’ vital signs and conditions, maintaining high levels of clinical competence throughout the home.
  • Ensure the appropriate individual care is given to residents, in accordance with their care plans.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of the highest standards of care possible to the residents.
  • Maintain accurate drug records and administer medication.
  • Report and document all accidents and provide professional nursing care in accordance with the RQIA requirements.
  • Maintain and update accurate individualized care plan for residents.
  • Work as part of a team and maintain good communication with residents, visitors and colleagues.
  • Flexibility in shift pattern and undertake other duties as necessary and assist in the supervision of staff and ensure adherence to home policies.

Person Specification:

  • Registered Nursing Qualification (RN).
  • Other post qualification training attended in nursing.
  • Mandatory training courses.
  • Good clinical and organisational skills.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the use of computers in documentation.
  • A commitment to organisational values.
  • Understanding of care management processes or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to think proactively and manage time effectively.
  • Evidence of continual professional and personal development.
  • Liaise confidently and effectively with others.
  • Experience of working alongside professionals from other disciplines/organisations to provide diverse packages of care.
  • An understanding of the specialist needs of the client/user group.
  • Leadership and management experience - supervision, teaching, and support for junior staff.
  • Accountability - Taking responsibility of own actions and recognizing the implication of own actions to the team and the home.
  • Conflict and relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of long-term conditions such as heart failure, stroke, neurological conditions, and dementia.
