An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Transcription team to recruit a new Transcriptionist. Our team receives dictations from clinical staff working with patients accessing mental health services. We type or proof‑read and edit these dictations and add the finished script to the patient's medical record, ready for the clinician to validate. Transcriptionists work from their own homes with our equipment, providing a 24‑hour service across all seven days of the week.

Shift & Working Conditions

  • Applicants are required to work the following shifts (availability of additional hours may be offered but not guaranteed):
    • Thursday day shift 11am – 7pm
    • Friday night shift 9pm – 7am
    • Sunday day shift 5pm – 9pm
  • Other duties include covering holidays and sickness.
  • Applicants must have a fast, reliable internet connection, adequate home workspace, and be able to travel independently to Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland (maximum of 4 visits per year).
  • Work is performed remotely.

Main Duties

  • Audio typing performance of at least 50 words per minute (speed tested during interview)
  • Proof‑reading and editing of dictations using the patient information system (Rio) and other required systems
  • Adhering to set turnaround times and high quality standards as part of a 24/7/365 service
  • Working independently and as part of a team; strong command of English grammar, Microsoft Word and Outlook, and basic IT confidence

Knowledge and Skills

  • Audio‑typing skills with a minimum of 50 wpm and high accuracy
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel
  • Problem‑solving skills
  • Knowledge of the RiO system is advantageous
  • Flexible approach to shift coverage

Experience

  • Audio‑typing experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Competent with computer equipment

Typing Skills Test

  • Minimum 50 wpm
  • 60 wpm benchmark
